CHCA uses tool to standardize its clinical database
Children’s Hospital Alliance Expands Comparative Effectiveness Database
  1. Community Acquired Pneumonia (CAP): Compare the effectiveness of aminopenicillins, second-generation cephalosporins and macrolides
  2. Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): Compare the effectiveness of fundoplication versus gastrojejunal (GJ) feeding tubes
  3. Advanced Appendicitis: Compare the effectiveness of mono-therapy antibiotic regimens versus two or three combinations of antibiotics as initial post-operative treatment
  4. Acute Osteomyelitis: Compare the effectiveness of antibiotics active against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) versus non-MRSA infections

Initially, this retrospective database will be for researchers, but after the grant ends, Stepanek hopes this data can help with quality and performance initiatives at his organization. Bertoch foresees more demand among children’s hospitals to participate, who will be interested in wanting more clinical data in comparative data sets.
