In a commentary this morning in Forbes Peter Neupert, corporate vice president in the Health Solutions Group at Microsoft makes the case for keeping our eye on the prize. In other words, using stimulus money for improved patient care outcomes, rather than IT for the sake of IT.

Sub-titled, the 19 billion for health IT isn’t what’s needed most, he concludes:

“The only way for you and me to get a return on the health IT stimulus dollars is for the money to be focused on improving patient health and reforming the payment system (i.e., pay physicians for health status/outcome instead of paying for each procedure).”
