Headlines today: the Democratic Party is calling for widespread adoption of healthcare technology because it "would save the average family up to $2,500 per year in healthcare costs by making the system more efficient and ultimately eliminating waste, like duplicative tests." Now I'm no Republican stalwart; indeed, I take both parties to task every election for the farcical lying contests they engage in to get elected, then how they simply serve the powers that elected them with pork barrel entitlements and specious executive orders. So, the following graphic sums up just how accurate and thoughtful this $2,500 figure probably is. By the way, I'd like my $2.5K in cash and I'll keep my paper medical record safe in my doctor's office and off of the 'net...

along these lines, I usually ignore any studies that come up with multi million (or billion) dollar predictions for what healthcare IT will save or cost. The numbers are too big and, I think, based on little hard evidence.
