Various statewide California-based healthcare providers and payers have formed an ICD-10 Collaborative, aimed at helping reducing the time and costs associated with implementing the ICD-10 codeset. The collaborative, which is being headed by leaders from the Irvine, Calif.based healthcare IT consulting firm, Atrilogy Solutions Group, will look to raise awareness, share best practices, provide testing, and give support to smaller providers.

HIMSS G7, a World Bank-endorsed, sponsor-led initiative from the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), is focusing on effective implementation of ICD-10 in its latest advisory report, “Implementing ICD-10 by the Compliance Date: A Call to Action.” The report includes “actionable steps” healthcare stakeholders can take to successful comply with the ICD-10 code-set in time for the Oct. 1, 2014 deadline.

According to a survey, the majority of providers are greatly concerned about the transition to the ICD-10 code set. The survey, conducted by Marietta, Ga.-based Nuesoft Technologies, called “Attitudes Toward the Transition to ICD-10 and ANSI-5010,” surveyed 480 of physicians, administrators, office managers and billers, and 96 percent of the respondents reported that they are concerned about the potential impact of the transition to ICD-10.
