Agfa Intensifies Co-operation Efforts with ICW
Agfa HealthCare, a provider of IT enabled clinical workflow and diagnostic imaging solutions, and San Mateo, Calif.-based InterComponentWare AG (ICW), a provider of eHealth solutions, are intensifying their co-operation efforts.
According to Mortsel, Belgium-based Agfa, the non-exclusive agreement covers the development of seamless integration and interoperability between Agfa HealthCare's hospital information system (HIS) ORBIS and ICW's eHealth framework.
The agreement is an extension of an ongoing co-operation between the two companies on issues in the hospital sector. Agfa HealthCare and ICW, amongst others, have already actively co-operated in various working groups in Germany on the implementation of HL7 standards and on the development of an electronic case record.
Varian Distributes Cedara's IResponse Technology
Mississauga, Ontario-based Cedara Software, a Merge Healthcare company, and a developer of medical software technologies, has concluded a licensing agreement with Varian Medical Systems.
Under the terms of the agreement, Varian has exclusive global rights to distribute Cedara's IResponse technology within the radiation and medical oncology market.
According to Cedara, IReseponse analyzes how cancerous tumors are responding to treatment, supports multiple imaging modalities and features patented analysis of fDM (functional diffusion mapping) MR images.
Varian Medical Systems, a manufacturer of medical devices and software for treating cancer and other medical conditions, is based in Palo Alto, Calif.
Cardinal Health Acquiring Viasys
Dublin, Ohio-based Cardinal Health plans to acquire Conshohocken, Pa.-based Viasys for approximately $1.5 billion, including the assumption of outstanding debt. Viasys Healthcare Inc. is a global, research-based medical technology company focused on respiratory, neurology and orthopedic products.
According to Cardinal, the acquisition will enable the company to:
Deliver comprehensive bedside, patient safety offerings to acute-care customers.
Better serve customers globally.
Enhance its product and intellectual property portfolio.
Realize synergies through existing capabilities and platforms.
Under the agreement, Cardinal Health will acquire Viasys in a two-step transaction. In the first step, Cardinal will make a cash tender offer to acquire all outstanding shares of Viasys common stock at $42.75 per share. The second step will consist of a merger in which the holders of the outstanding shares of Viasys common stock that were not purchased in the tender offer will receive the same per share price paid in the tender offer, in cash, without interest.
InterSystems Acquires TrakHealth
Cambridge, Mass.-based InterSystems Corporation has acquired Australia-based TrakHealth.
An application partner of InterSystems since 1991, TrakHealth develops and markets TrakCare, an enterprise-level Web-based health information system deployed in 25 countries. Under the terms of the agreement, TrakHealth will operate as an independent subsidiary of InterSystems, with its own sales force.
InterSystems is a provider of database and integration software. Its product line includes the InterSystems CACHÃ object database, InterSystems Ensemble rapid integration platform, and InterSystems HealthShare platform for regional and national electronic health records.
InfoLogix Acquires AMTSystems
InfoLogix Inc., a provider of mobile intelligence solutions, has acquired the healthcare mobility services and RFID business of AMTSystems Inc.
According to InfoLogix, the business acquired includes existing relationships with customers, vendors and partners, and the intellectual property rights behind AMT's clinical and financial mobility solutions for healthcare.
The acquisition also includes an FDA-approved technology which uses RFID to prevent "wrong site/wrong procedure" surgeries; a patent-pending, paperless RFID-based chain of custody drug testing system; and a medication management solution for long-term care and assisted living facilities, says the company.
AMTSystems is a provider of RFID and barcode-based solutions based in Cheshire, Conn. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
