[Noteworthy]Edwin P. Czopek was named vice president of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), replacing Dominic Molloy who left to pursue other interests. Directing the decision support group operations, Czopek is responsible for implementing an information technology plan as well as handling financial management activities. Prior to joining HFMA he was executive director of operations and business for the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Araxsys, Inc., Redwood City, Calif., named Vasu Devan as president and COO, replacing Joe Mandato who assumed the position of chairman and CEO. Previously, Devan was vice president of worldwide sales for business software company Remedy Corp., Mountain View, Calif. Araxsys provides workflow systems to the healthcare industry.

Alice Murray was named President and CEO of San Francisco-based Object Products’ subsidiary HealthCheck, the new company formed as a consolidation of HealthCheck, Sacramento, Calif., and Colorado Physicians’ Credentialing Services (CPCS), Denver. Murray was director of operations at CPCS.

Physician Computer Network (PCN), Morris Plains, N.J., announced Jack Mortell as the company’s new president, replacing Hank Green, who retired as of January 1, 1998. Mortell was PCN’s senior vice president and CFO from May 1992 to March 1995. He then became executive vice president and COO and held that position until his most recent appointment. Green maintains ties to PCN as a director and consultant to the company.

Database software company Informix, Menlo Park, Calif., appointed Michael J. Smith as director of worldwide healthcare marketing. Prior to joining Informix last year he was the healthcare technical manager for Sybase, also a database software company. Smith has also held positions with Bank of America and Boeing.

Superior Consultant Company, Inc., promoted Tanya Freeman to vice president, responsible for business development for the company’s service offerings, including an information systems outsourcing arrangement. Most recently she was national practice leader and executive director for Superior’s strategic operations and imaging practices. Freeman joined Superior in 1994 as a management consultant.
