The #4 vendor in HIT revenue per HI's "Top 100" list is another missing suspect: GE. Since they acquired IDX's "CareCast" suite a few years ago, they have become a "total HIS" vendor, but GE is so big (over $170 Billion in worldwide revenue) that they don't break our minor details like a paltry billion in HIT revenue... CareCast has been renamed "Centricity" and joins several other leading products GE has acquired, such as MedicaLogic's award-winning "Logician" ambulatory EMR. They have a huge R&D project going on at Intermountain Healthcare to integrate and improve these disparate products, and with GE's staggering capital behind them, we guesstimate their annual HIT revenues are at least one billion last year, earning them 4th place behind Siemens. Quite a spate of growth considering their annual HIT revenue in 1996, the first year they joined the HIS chase, was only $27M! As with McKesson, amazing what a few acquisitions can do for you...
