Canadian Hospital Deploys RTLS

Centre de santé et services sociaux (CSSS) de St-Jérôme

(the St-Jérôme health and social services center), a 405-bed hospital located in Quebec, is implementing Reston, Va.-based

Ekahau Inc.

’s Wi-Fi-based Real Time Location Systems (RTLS) to improve patient and staff safety.

Ekahau will work with ICT solution provider and system integrator Bell Canada to deploy the solution, which can pinpoint location using Ekahau T301BD pager tags worn by hospital staff in the hospital’s mental health facility. According to the company, the pager tags can support two-way communications, enabling users to send and receive text messages. The units also include a button that can be triggered in the event of an emergency to alert staff of the situation.

The CSSS de St-Jérôme has three missions: to operate as a hospital, provide geriatric care and deliver community services. The organization provides services to a population of 125,000 individuals. The hospital includes 85 beds that are reserved for in-patient mental health care.
