Palm Springs, Calif.-based Desert Regional Medical Center, a 394-bed facility belonging to Tenet California, has purchased Kansas City, Mo.-based Cerner RxStation automated medication dispensing cabinets.

The product creates an automated medication-management process by connecting the medication dispensing unit directly to the Cerner Millenium EMR. The company says that since the medication-dispensing process is automated, the risk of a clinician grabbing the wrong medication is greatly diminished. The RxStation automated medication-dispensing units work in conjunction with the Cerner PharmNet solution to provide an integrated medication management solution, according to Cerner.

When fully implemented, more than 500 nurses, 25 pharmacists and 30 pharmacy technicians will rely on the RxStation to manage the medication-administration process.
