The Chicago-based Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) has recognized Dr. Brian Yeaman, M.D., founder and president, Norman, Okla.-based Yeaman and Associates, Yeaman Signature Health Clinic, as the recipient of its 2015 HIMSS Physician IT Leadership Award.
The Physician IT Leadership Award recognizes significant leadership in the area of applying IT to the needs of physicians while serving the society and/or the industry. The Physician IT Leadership Award can be made for a single exceptional contribution, for a sustained contribution, or for a lifetime of exceptional leadership, HIMSS explained.
Dr. Yeaman has more than 10 years of informatics experience in helping organizations transform capture, integration and delivery of clinical data, information and knowledge. Yeaman has guided some of the largest healthcare companies to understand their core competencies and assisted in bringing new solutions to the healthcare market, HIMSS said in a press release.
Yeaman served as chief medical information officer (CMIO) for Oklahoma’s Norman Regional Health System for 10 years, and guided both inpatient and outpatient electronic health record (EHR) implementations and meaningful use attestation for Stages one and two. He participated in the development and leadership of health information exchange (HIE) there for more than eight years. As chief administrative officer for Coordinated Care Oklahoma, Yeaman's service area now includes more than four million patients with data received from facilities in five states, which is a model for sustainable HIE conducted under private funding and governance.
"I'm thankful for the opportunity to practice medicine as well as serve on the front lines of defining a new healthcare. I feel that we are still early in our journey of realizing the potential we have to improve care delivery with interoperability and health IT across the board," Yeaman said in a statement.
Meanwhile, HIMSS also announced that Mary Beth Mitchell, R.N., chief nursing informatics officer at Arlington-based Texas Health Resources, is the recipient of the 2015 HIMSS Nursing Informatics Leadership Award.
At Texas Health Resources, Mitchell oversees nursing adoption, utilization and optimization of the organization’s EHR. She also provides oversight for their HIMSS Analytics EMRAM Stage 7 initiative and the HIMSS Davies Award application. Mitchell has presented at state and national levels on nursing informatics topics, such as the power of EHRs, the Texas Health Ebola experience, and improving populations through actionable information, according to a HIMSS press release.
Both Yeaman and Mitchell will be recognized during the 2016 HIMSS Conference & Exhibition on Feb. 29-March 4 in Las Vegas, Nev.
