HIMSS Designates Top IT Hospitals

HIMSS Analytics (Chicago), a healthcare information technology market research firm that is a subsidiary of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), recently published a white paper entitled, Stage 6 Hospitals: The Journey and the Accomplishments.

According to HIMSS, stage 6 is a classification given to hospitals that have successfully implemented information technologies across a multitude of systems, including the electronic medical record (EMR), to improve quality outcomes, patient safety and planning for future business changes.

The following six hospitals were given Stage 6 designation:

· Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, Baton Rouge, La.

· Newport Hospital, Newport, R.I.

· Clarian North Medical Center, Carmel, Ind.

· St. Clair Hospital, Pittsburgh

· Evanston Northwestern Healthcare, Evanston, Ill.

· Memorial Health University Medical Center, Savannah, Ga.
